How to tackle the opioid crisis?

The opioid epidemic is a major contemporary issue. Opioid misuse and addiction is an ongoing and rapidly evolving public health crisis requiring innovative solutions. Drug overdose, driven largely by overdose related to the use of opioids, is now the leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States.

We have published a new article that discusses several options to tackle the problem. Click on the link to access the article: https://www.issup.net/knowledge-share/research/2017-08/how-tackle-americas-opioid-crisis

What’s your view on the suggested options? What else can we do to combat the problem?

As with many other complex issues, a multifaceted response is required. In that regard, a leading element is to improve access to high-quality, evidence-based treatment services and providers. One of the most useful resources to do this is SAMHSA’s publication “Decisions in Recovery: Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder”, which is available at: https://www.issup.net/knowledge-share/publications/2017-08/decisions-recovery-treatment-opioid-use-disorder
This handbook offers information about medication-assisted treatment, and helps people living with opioid use disorder compare treatment options and discuss their preferences with a provider.

Thanks for sharing this excellent resource, Jose!
