New UK Drug Policy: A step forward, backwards, or something to keep everyone happy?

The new UK Drug Policy released on 14 July is the first such document for 7 years. Good, bad or indifferent? The media coverage provided the sound bites: evidence based; informed by experts in the field; focus on recovery; etc.etc. The questions remain as to whether the document truly reflects the evidence base in certain areas and whether we are still faced with the issue of drugs being a legal issue rather than a health issue. Is it more concerned with criminalising drug use rather than preventing the harm that drug use can cause? Where does health, safety, risk protection fit with this policy? And does prevention and education remain a poor add on to the overall thinking on how we address the issue? What are your views on the new policy? Strengths, weaknesses, omissions???
